By Bob Morrison
Dorks on the Loose at the Warehouse Beyond is written and performed by Phaea Crede and Becca Jones, two actors from New York, and it presents a series of comedy sketches inspired by life there, here and in Eastern Europe.
Between the sketches, the stage goes red as the women rush from the clutches of the police -- not a bad conceit. At least it worked for me, and was more creative than the usual blackout.
The comedy began with the tale of two members of a vaguely eastern European rock trio. I should say, two remaining members. As the piece progresses, it turns out that perhaps the absence of the third member may not have been entirely accidental -- with each of the homicidal musings dismissed with "Eets a metaphor"!
We meet a mismatched pair of women's newscasters . . .
And then a real treat: A conversation with a cell phone with personality and attitude. My favorite sketch.
An odd couple turns up, odd indeed because the obsessive neatnik is a vampire and has one of the best lines in the show. I won't reveal it, but it concerns bathroom tissue.
I can't mention everything, but want to say that an actor doing a commercial for non-running mascara with an offstage sadistic director may have been informed by experience.
As I write this, the fourth showing is just beginning, but there are two more on Saturday, July 19, at 3:00 p.m. and midnight.
